Babar to keep close eye on PSL 6 top performers

Pakistani Skipper Babar Azam would keep a close eye on top performers of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six matches, as the Green-shirts look to finalise the team combination for this year’s Twenty20 World Cup.

We have this tournament (PSL) to identify players who can fit into the Pakistan team. We will keep an eye on it and definitely consider them as we want to do whatever is best for the team,” cricketpakistan.com.pk quoted him as saying.

The prolific batsman also said that he will talk to retired pacer Mohammad Amir about his retirement decision from international cricket as he considers Amir one of the best left-arm bowlers in the world.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet regarding retirement but we will discuss the problems he is facing when I get the opportunity to talk to him,” said Babar.

“He is one of the best left-arm bowlers [in the world] and I really like him. I’m hopeful that he continues to perform well in the upcoming second half of PSL,” he said.

Amir who had retired from international cricket after reservations with Pakistan’s team management, featured in 36 Test matches, bagging 119 scalps, over the course of his career, after making his debut against Sri Lanka in 2009. He has also played 61 ODIs and 50 T20s in his limited-overs career, taking 81 and 59 wickets respectively.

Babar Azam, who was the star batsman of Karachi Kings’, was keen on sharing the field with New Zealand’s prolific opener Martin Guptill, during the remaining PSL season six matches.

Guptill was picked up by the Kings in the replacement draft few days back. “I have played with Martin Guptill in the past in the Caribbean Premier League. We had a good bonding and it was nice to play with him. He is one of the best T20 batsmen [in the world] and when he is batting he can totally change the complexion of the game. His power-hitting skills are outstanding. I will try to learn from his experience because the learning process never stops,” said Babar.

Babar also praised his fellow opener Sharjeel Khan and the work done by the latter on his fitness. “We have high hopes from Sharjeel Khan. He struggled a bit at the start of PSL 6 but then he hit an amazing century. Players like him can change the game single-handedly. I was really happy to see that he has worked really hard on his fitness as well,” he said.
