In a recent announcement, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed that all banks, microfinance banks (MFBs), and development finance institutions (DFIs) will remain closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, to observe the public holiday on the occasion of Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by the SBP on Monday, which clarified that the closure aligns with the public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan. The SBP’s decision is in line with the annual observance of Quaid-e-Azam Day, which commemorates the birth of Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and Christmas, a significant holiday for Christians around the world.
Both Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas are widely celebrated in Pakistan, with Quaid-e-Azam Day recognizing Jinnah’s role in the creation of Pakistan and Christmas being a religious occasion for the Christian community. The combination of these two important events on December 25 marks a day of national remembrance and global celebration.
As a result of the holiday, all banking activities, including transactions, account management, and financial services, will be paused for the day. Customers are advised to plan their banking needs accordingly before the holiday to avoid any inconvenience.
It is important to note that while the banking services will be suspended on December 25, the closure will not affect the availability of digital and online banking platforms, which will continue to function as usual. Customers can still perform online transactions, bill payments, and other banking activities through digital channels, ensuring minimal disruption to their financial routines.
This holiday offers an opportunity for the people of Pakistan to reflect on the legacy of Quaid-e-Azam and also participate in the celebrations of Christmas, fostering national unity and cultural respect.
