Best Pakistani Dramas of 2019
Cheekh
When it comes to the dramas that highlight social issues, Cheekh is truly the top contender. This Saba Qamar and Bilal Abbass starrer brings attention to the dilemma of abuse victims and their rich seemingly normal abusers. It is a crime-thriller series produced by Ali Qazmi and Fahad Mustafa under the banner of Big Bang Entertainment. It was out of the regular genre of shows produced in Pakistan. It wasn’t a family drama nor did it focus on any love angle. It just portrayed a very destructive aspect of the society of how the rich and powerful toy with the justice system of Pakistan but the writers sure gave it a satisfactory ending by showing that God’s justice is mightier than any court. So 10 on 10 to the Cheekh team!
Anaa
Anaa which was written by Samira Fazal was one of the highest-rated dramas of 2019 with it grossing between number 2 to 5 on youtube. The star cast included Hania Amir, Shehzad Sheikh, Usman Mukhtar, and Naimal Khawar. The show narrated the story of a young, defiant girl who lives with her father and grandfather. She falls in love with her cousin, Areesh (Shehzad Sheikh) but the circumstances don’t make it any easier for them to get married. Areesh marries another girl but soon realizes that he loves Dannen (Hania Amir) and the young pair runs off. The ending was disappointing for some though as Areesh again decides to part ways with Daneen for his first wife. A little cray cray there but its a great watch and you will thoroughly enjoy watching different characters and the scenic beauty of the most scenes as many parts of the show were set in the northern areas of Pakistan.
Do Bol
Do Bol was another hit series of 2019. This Hira Mani, Haroon Shahid, and Affan Waheed starrer wowed the audience with its interesting storyline and multiple twists and turns. The Wajahat Hussain directorial went on to win many hearts. It takes you on a journey of finding love in uncertain places and where you least expect it. The show follows the life of a young couple who is thrown together by circumstances and these two seem the least compatible but find their true love in each other. Do Bol delivers an engrossing story with characters that perform exceptionally well.
Suno Chanda
Suno Chanda is a fresh addition to this list for all those who enjoy romcoms. It is a romantic comedy which will tickle you senseless and will lighten your mood. The show has an exceptional star cast including Iqra Aziz, Farhan Saeed, Nadia Afghan, Ali Safina, and many others. It was produced by Momina Duraid under Momina Duraid production. The series followed the life of a couple who recently got hitched. The dialogue delivery and comic timings of the actors were perfect and if you are in a mood to watch something light and fun, Suno Chanda 2 is your best bet!
