Pakistan has lost a true icon of its culinary world. Chef Zakir Hussain, one of the country’s most beloved chefs and a pioneer in promoting authentic Pakistani cuisine, passed away in Karachi at the age of 57. His death has left a profound void in the hearts of food lovers, chefs, and fans around the world.
According to family sources, Chef Zakir had been battling kidney disease and was undergoing dialysis treatment in the United States. With his condition deemed untreatable by doctors, he returned to Pakistan about a month ago to spend his final days at home. His funeral prayer will be held after Asr at Jamia Rashidiah in Malir Saudabad, followed by burial at the Saudabad graveyard.
Born on 16 February 1967, Chef Zakir rose to fame through his engaging and educational cooking shows on various Pakistani television channels. With his warm personality, unique cooking style, and ability to simplify complex recipes, he became a household name and an inspiration for countless aspiring chefs. His work played a major role in bringing restaurant-style cooking to home kitchens, making professional techniques accessible to everyday viewers.
“Chef Zakir was a maestro of flavors—a passionate cook, a teacher to many, and a guardian of authentic culinary heritage,” one tribute read.
His legacy goes beyond the screen—his recipes, teachings, and love for traditional food will continue to live on in kitchens across the country. Fans and fellow chefs alike mourn his passing but also celebrate a life dedicated to flavor, education, and cultural pride.
We pray that Allah grants him the highest place in Jannah and gives strength to his family, friends, and all those who admired him. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
