Towering Performances by Bilal Abbas Khan and Hadiqa Kiani makes ‘Dobara’ a Riveting Watch

Bilal Abbas Khan is one bankable actor of the industry who has made a name for himself within no time. He has developed this reputation amongst the viewers that a project featuring him is a must-watch. ‘Dobara’ is Khan’s latest outing on the screens. Ever since its promo aired, viewers were excited to see a fresh theme where a young guy falls in love with an older woman. After a smashing debut in ‘Raqeeb Se, we couldn’t wait to see Hadiqa Kiani again and that too in a modern avatar. Not to forget, the king of content, HUM TV is on a spree of delivering back-to-back hit projects.

Sarwat Nazir who has been behind successful plays like Besharam, Khaas, Qayamat, Roshan Sitara and Mein Abdul Qadir Hon is the writer. Danish Nawaz of ‘Chupke Chupke’fame is the director. The drama also features Javed Sheikh, Sakina Samo, Nauman Ejaz, Usama Khan, Nabeel Zuberi, Sabeena Syed and others. So did the first episode of ‘Dobara’meet our expectations? Let’s Analyze:-

The Plot

The first episode unfolds the life of Mehrunisa (Hadiqa Kiani), who has lost her husband Hidayatullah (Noman Ejaz). The story goes into flashback where a young Mehru who loves to study and play tennis is forced to get married to a man who is double her age. Her ailing father has no choice but to do so to secure her future. Hidayat’s sister played by Sakina Sammo is a typical Phuppo having weird thoughts and actions over Mehrunisa. Mehru is the mother of two children, her daughter is married and her son played by Usama Khan is in a relationship with manipulative Seher (Sabina Syed)

On the other hand, Mahir (Bilal Abbas Khan) is a carefree and irresponsible fellow. He doesn’t shy away from stealing money from his stepfather’s wallet to take his girlfriend Naveen (ZoyaNasir) for her birthday dinner. He lives with his father Jahangir (Shabbir Jan) and her stepmother doesn’t leave any opportunity to insult him. The first episode comes across as gripping, in terms of the story, as it spawns curiosity in the viewer’s mind to know more about Mehru’s past.

What impressed us?

Hadiqa Kiani once again powers the wonderfully-written script with a poignant performance. The pain and vulnerability are evident on her face and one can feel it even when she has no dialogues. It’s a delight to see Bilal Abbas in a different zone; as expected his act so far is terrific. As a performer he has reached high altitudes and let me assert, his act in the upcoming episodes would be a treat to watch. Also, the chemistry between the lead actors is yet to be explored. The rest of the cast fit their characters very well.

Writing and Direction

What writer Sarwat Nazir brings to the premise is a total mastery over the craft of storytelling. She aims to break the stereotypes and, at the same time, addresses a bold theme. Full marks to director Danish Nawaz to invest his faith in HadiqaKiani for the most crucial part of the play and extracts the best out of her. What’s great about his craft is that Nawaz never takes the audience for granted and entertains them with interesting subjects every time.

Final Word

All said and done, ‘Dobara‘ takes a solid start. The face-paced narrative and towering performance are one of the major USP’sof the play. It would be interesting to see how ‘Dobara’maintains the pace in the upcoming episodes.
