“Eat out to help out” applies to eat-in food and drink on Monday to Wednesday and thediscount is capped at £10 per person.
The “Eat out to help out” scheme is intended to incite people to visit restaurants, cafes and pubs, which have been adversely hit by the lockdown.
Many locations, which have reopened, have also been strained to function at a lower capacity to comply with social distancing rules.
The deal only applies at participating eateries that are not in local lockdown – but major chains including Chicken.com, Pizza Express, Costa Coffee, McDonald’s and Nando’s are among the 72,000 to have signed-up.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak said: “Our ‘eat out to help out’ scheme’s number one purpose is to assist shield the jobs of 1.8 million chefs, waiters and restaurateurs by boosting demand and getting customers through the door.
“The industry is a fundamental element to our economy and it’s been hit hard by coronavirus, so relish summer carefully by showing your favourite places your support – we’ll pay half.”
No vouchers are necessary to use the offer, with the participating business deducting 50% from the bill and charging the discount to the Treasury.
There is no minimum spending and you can use the discount as often as you like on appropriate days. However, it does not apply to takeaways.
