Lahore, October 14, 2016: LUMS hosted the Women’s League 2016, organised by the Department of Sports, Wellness and Recreation in collaboration with student society, Sports at LUMS (SLUMS). The event comprised of nine sports such as athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, futsal, netball, table tennis, volleyball and, hockey. Female athletes from colleges and universities including LSE, UoL, FAST, COMSATS and FCC participated in the event.
The philosophy behind the Women’s League was ‘women empowerment. This year SLUMS planned this sports event to give confidence to the girls and encourage them to participate in this kind of sports competition. Department of Sports at LUMS invited universities and schools and 60 underprivileged girls from a public high school run by an NGO. Participants were given personal grooming and sports training sessions to boost self confidence and learn different skills. For the personal grooming sessions, LUMS faculty members were engaged. The event ended with a small competition in a few sports such as athletics, badminton and throwball.
