In a move aimed at providing relief to consumers, the federal government announced a reduction in petrol prices by Rs 4.74 per litre, effective for the next fifteen days. This decision, reported by ARY News, was made after receiving approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Following this reduction, the new price of petrol is set at Rs 268.36 per litre. Additionally, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been decreased by Rs 3.86 per litre, bringing it down to Rs 270.94 per litre.
This recent price cut follows a significant reduction announced on May 15, where petrol prices were lowered by Rs 15.39 per litre. At that time, the price of high-speed diesel was also reduced by Rs 7.88 per litre, setting it at Rs 274.8 per litre.
The Ministry of Finance, upon the Prime Minister’s directive, issued a notification confirming these changes. The notification detailed that the price of light diesel has been cut by Rs 7.54 per litre, resulting in a new price of Rs 161.17 per litre. Similarly, the price of kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs 9.86 per litre, now costing Rs 173.48 per litre.
These adjustments reflect the government’s response to fluctuations in the international oil market and aim to mitigate the financial burden on the public by aligning domestic prices with global trends.
