Iconic handwoven Scottish cloth maker, Harris Tweed Hebrides, joins hands with Pakistan’s “King of Couture”, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, to present a unique collection entitled, “Shah”, in aid of the UK Association of Medical Aid to Pakistan at fundraising gala dinner in Glasgow.
Pakistani Fashion force, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY), will launch the unique collaboration, entitled
“Shah”, with iconic Scottish cloth maker Harris Tweed Hebrides at the 11th annual UK Association of
Medical Aid to Pakistan (UKMAP) gala fundraising dinner in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday 30th November 2018 at the revered Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.
Being hosted for the first time outside London, the annual fundraiser has come to Scotland following generous support from Harris Tweed Hebrides, HSY and Saffron Events – as well as local Scottish & Pakistani community donors.
In addition to supporting the Linda Norgrove Foundation’s work in Afghanistan, UKMAP will be raising funds for three main projects; The provision of clean drinking water; Student Bursaries for
Medical qualifications; And treatment for the prevention of Hepatitis B and C.
The event, co-hosted by Scottish model and actor Atta Yaqub alongside TV presenter Zara Janjua, will begin with the glittering runway fashion show by HSY showcasing the collection, which features the iconic cloth by Harris Tweed Hebrides. The gala dinner, which is generously sponsored by Glasgow-based catering and décor specialists Saffron Events, will be followed by a charity auction featuring money can’t buy experiences. The evening will conclude following a live performance by Pakistani singer Shujat Ali Khan. In attendance will be well-known names from the Scottish Political, Business & Pakistani communities – as well as celebrated personalities from the UK and beyond.
Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, Founder & HSY Designer, said: “We are delighted to showcase the talented Pakistani craftsmanship in collaboration with the iconic cloth by Harris Tweed Hebrides. We thank UKMAP for this opportunity and to raise both awareness and funds for those less fortunate”.
Rt. Hon Brian Wilson, Chairman of Harris Tweed Hebrides, said: “Harris Tweed Hebrides welcomes the opportunity to work with the internationally acclaimed designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin on a truly unique collection of gowns which will marry the best of Scottish textiles and Pakistani design. We look forward to a great event at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, and are proud that our cloth will have a substantial impact in raising funds for the UK Association of Medical Aid to Pakistan as well as the admirable works carried out by the Linda Norgrove Foundation in Afghanistan.”
Farah Khushi, Trustee of UKMAP, said: “We are delighted and very proud to be bringing our annual fundraising event to Scotland for the first time – and what better venue than the prestigious Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum to whom we are very grateful for their support. Furthermore, we are indebted to Harris Tweed Hebrides and HSY for their invaluable contribution to the evening’s fundraising efforts”.
