The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted closure reports for two cases connected to actor Sushant Singh Rajput case. The reports, presented to courts in both Mumbai and Patna, confirm no evidence of foul play.
In June 2020, Rajput, aged 34, was discovered dead in his Mumbai residence. The Mumbai Police’s initial investigation deemed his death a suicide, with the postmortem confirming death by asphyxia due to hanging. However, intense public and media speculation followed, leading to numerous conspiracy theories.
Closure reports are typically filed when the investigative body concludes there’s insufficient evidence to proceed against an accused party. Importantly, filing a closure report doesn’t immediately conclude the case. The final decision rests with the magistrate overseeing the matter.
The magistrate reviews the closure report and determines if it should be accepted or if further investigation is necessary. If accepted, the case is formally closed. However, if a complainant disagrees with the findings, they retain the legal right to challenge the report through a protest petition.
In the present case, the CBI began its investigation in August 2020, following a complaint from Rajput’s father, who accused actress Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetment to suicide, financial mismanagement, and mental harassment. Chakraborty later countered with a complaint in Mumbai, alleging that Rajput’s sisters obtained a fake medical prescription for him.
After years of investigation, the CBI has now officially submitted closure reports for Sushant Singh Rajput case, indicating no criminal conspiracy or wrongdoing was found behind the actor’s death.
