Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Accelerates Islamabad Technology Park Project Completion

On Saturday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed the project team of the Islamabad Technology Park and the Information Technology Ministry to expedite the completion of the project, aiming to finish it within the current calendar year rather than the initially scheduled date of June 2025.

During his visit to the under-construction site of what will be Pakistan’s largest technology park, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the urgency of the project, which was launched in 2022 under the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and awarded to a South Korean company. The project, with a total cost of Rs 25 billion, is supported by a $70 million soft loan from the South Korean government.

PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum on the project, stating, “Soon after taking charge of my office, I issued directions to continue work on the project round the clock.” He recalled his time as Chief Minister of Punjab, where he implemented a 24-hour work system for development projects.

Expressing satisfaction with the current progress, the Prime Minister urged the project management to strive for completion by September or October this year. Upon completion, the Islamabad Technology Park will house approximately 120 offices for various companies, an incubation center with 15 offices and startups, and a business support center offering legal, marketing, and financial assistance.

The park is expected to create around 10,000 productive jobs, providing opportunities for Pakistan’s skilled and knowledgeable workforce. PM Shehbaz Sharif also noted that the park would contribute to increasing the country’s exports by approximately $70 million annually. Additionally, a Level 3 data center—the highest of its kind and the first ever in Pakistan—will be established within the park.

The Islamabad Technology Park is set to foster collaboration between domestic and international academia, researchers, industry, and planners. The Prime Minister also pledged to replicate similar projects across other regions of Pakistan in collaboration with provincial governments.

PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to the South Korean government for their generous contribution, acknowledging their role in making this transformative project possible.

The accelerated timeline for the Islamabad Technology Park reflects the government’s commitment to advancing Pakistan’s technological and economic development, positioning the country as a hub for innovation and international cooperation.
