Extreme Heat Persists in Karachi and Surrounding Regions

Karachi and other parts of the province are bracing for continued extreme heat over the next three days. On Wednesday, the city sweltered under temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius. The high temperatures combined with humidity levels exceeding 50% made conditions particularly grueling for residents, especially under direct sunlight.

Health Advisory

Sardar Sarfaraz, the Chief Meteorologist, has issued a warning for people to minimize outdoor activities due to the severe health risks posed by the intense heat. Prolonged exposure to such high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke, emphasizing the need for caution.

Monsoon Currents and Weather Predictions

Despite the ongoing heatwave, monsoon currents are penetrating Sindh, bringing varied weather conditions across different districts. According to Sardar Sarfaraz, the following weather patterns are expected:

  • Tharparker, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Thatta, Sujawal, and Jamshoro districts: Thunderstorms and rain with moderate to heavy falls are likely from today until July 20, with occasional breaks.
  • Hyderabad, T.M. Khan, T.A. Yar, Mitiari, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Nausharo Feroze, and Shaheed Benazirabad districts: These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms and rain, with isolated moderate to heavy falls, also from today until July 20 with occasional gaps.
  • Karachi: The city is set to endure another very hot and humid day, with the possibility of dust-thunderstorms or rain in some areas.

Preparing for the Heat and Rain

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and remain indoors as much as possible during peak heat hours. Those in regions expecting rain should prepare for potential flooding and ensure their homes are secure against possible water damage.

As the province navigates these extreme weather conditions, staying informed and taking necessary precautions will be key to ensuring safety and well-being.
