In a significant development, the Sindh High Court on Monday granted bail to Natasha Danish, a key suspect in the Karsaz accident case, in connection with a drug-related charge. The court’s decision came after a detailed hearing, during which Natasha’s legal counsel, Farooq H. Naik, successfully argued for her release on bail.
Bail Conditions
The court required Natasha Danish to submit bonds worth Rs 1 million as part of her bail conditions. This ruling marks the second instance where Natasha has secured bail, with the earlier one being granted in relation to the initial charges stemming from the Karsaz accident.
Legal Proceedings
During the hearing, Naik emphasized that Natasha had already been granted bail in one FIR and highlighted that a reconciliation had been reached between the parties involved in the accident. This reconciliation played a pivotal role in influencing the court’s decision.
The prosecution, however, presented arguments stating that Natasha was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. They pointed to a medical report indicating the presence of methamphetamine in her urine. Nonetheless, Naik countered this by pointing out that the medical report was inconclusive and did not show methamphetamine in her blood.
Inconclusive Medical Evidence
When the court inquired about the quantity of methamphetamine detected in Natasha’s system, the prosecutor conceded that the medical report did not specify any measurable amount. Naik further elaborated that Natasha had been undergoing psychiatric treatment for years, suggesting that prescribed medications may have contributed to the presence of certain substances in her system, which were not fully accounted for in the medical report.
Court’s Consideration
Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha, who presided over the case, acknowledged the importance of the reconciliation between Natasha and the victims of the accident. This played a crucial role in the court’s decision to grant bail. After considering arguments from both sides, the court ruled in favor of Natasha’s release, requiring her to post bail bonds amounting to Rs 1 million.
Background
Natasha Danish had been remanded to jail by the City Court of Karachi on August 21, following the accident. The drug charge was pursued under the Prohibition of Narcotic Substances Act, which led to her being denied bail in a previous application by a sessions court. Additionally, a special investigation team was formed on August 23 to further probe into the incident.
This latest development in the case represents a turning point for Natasha, with her lawyer successfully securing bail after weeks of legal battles.
