Tom Latham will miss the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan due to a Latham hand fracture. Michael Bracewell will take over the captaincy in his absence, having previously led the team during the T20I series.
Additionally, uncapped batsman Rhys Mariu has been called up as a batting cover.
Mariu, known for his impressive first-class record with an average of 61.73, is set to make his debut. “We’ve had to adapt throughout this tour with several players unavailable for various reasons,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead commented.
“This opens the door for new opportunities, and it’s great to welcome Rhys into the squad, along with Henry, who’s been in excellent form after a lengthy injury break.”
Stead continued, “It’s unfortunate to lose Tom as captain right before the series, and we all wish him a swift recovery. Michael has done an exceptional job leading the team and will continue to do so.”
In a separate update, Will Young will step out of the squad after the first match, as he awaits the birth of his first child with wife Elise. “We send them our best wishes during this exciting and significant time,” Stead added.
The series will also see the inclusion of uncapped players Muhammad Abbas and Nick Kelly, following earlier call-ups. Notably, star player Kane Williamson has opted out of the series.
New Zealand triumphed in the recent T20I series with a 4-1 victory.
