This past weekend was made a little more exciting for Karachiites, thanks to the exhilarating performance by rock band Mizmaar, held at St Patrick’s College. Fans were excited to see the band take the stage after a gap of 7 years; post the humongous success of their comeback single Jee Loonga. Mizmaar’s power packed performance didn’t let them down one bit.
The crowd eagerly waited as the rock sensation, made up of guitarist Kashan Admani, drummer Alfred D’mello and vocalist Mashhad Shahryar kicked off their energetic performance in style. Despite the long break, the band looked fresh and delivered an impressive high-energy, one-hour set which was an entertaining mix of popular local folk songs, peppy English chartbusters and Mizmaar’s hit singles.
Lead vocalist Mashhad, who has already won accolades for his impressive vocals, looked every bit a rockstar as he entertained the crowd with his immensely charged performance. Screams of joy reverberated through the crowd when Mizmaar performed their very own renditions of Ankit Tiwari’s chartbuster Sun Raha Hainna Tu, Pharrel Williams and Daft Punk’s current hit Get Lucky, folk numbers Laal Meri Pat and Tere Ishq Mein and Mizmaar’s ballad Pal. Meanwhile delighted fans quickly arrived backstage to praise the lads’ show and get pictures clicked with them.
Ahead of the show, Mizmaar took to Facebook to express their excitement, saying “Mizmaar performed after 7 years, and we were humbled by the love and affection shown to us. We’re glad our chords touched the chords of your hearts. Thank you Rock Fest ’15 and St. Patrick’s College for the reception. We’re looking forward to a lot more gigs, songs and a lot more love. #Mizmaar”
About Mizmaar
Formed by guitarist Kashan Admani, fusion pop-rock band Mizmaar rose to fame in their native Pakistan with their debut album Kash, the release producing two hit singles for the songs ‘Kash’ and ‘Laut Ke Aa’ in 2003. Their second album, Sitara, was released worldwide on Universal Music in 2007, and spawned the hits ‘Hai Pyar Kya’ and ‘Sitara,’ the latter landing on a soundtrack to the Hollywood film ‘Dragon War.’
Despite their early success, the band was plagued by several personnel changes, prompting Kashan to focus more on his recording studio and commercial music production company, collaborating with longtime friend, band mate and drummer Alfred D’Mello. For several years to follow, the band was silent until Kashan and Alfred happened upon a young vocalist [name to be revealed soon!]: this phenomenally talented singer immediately had the two thinking seriously about reforming Mizmaar with a new front man and revitalizing their sound. The new vocalist brings a new strength to the band, combining classic eastern influences with a western pop attitude. There is currently a new album in the works. This widely anticipated comeback is due to be released soon, along with a video directed by Kashan featuring the newly recharged lineup.
