Mohammad Rizwan Reaches Career-High Position in ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings

Pakistan’s star wicketkeeper-batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, has achieved a significant milestone in his career, reaching a career-high position in the top 10 of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. The latest rankings, released on Wednesday, reflect Rizwan’s exceptional form, particularly in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.

Rizwan’s Remarkable Rise

Rizwan’s ascension in the rankings is a testament to his consistent performances on the field. His unbeaten knock of 171 and a solid 51 in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh have been instrumental in propelling him into the top 10 for the first time. His rise is part of a broader shake-up in the Test rankings, which have seen several players make significant gains following their standout performances in recent matches.

Key Movements in Test Rankings

Alongside Rizwan, several other players have made notable progress in the latest rankings update. England’s Harry Brook has moved up to fourth place, just one spot shy of his career-best third position, following his contributions of 56 and 32 against Sri Lanka in the first match of their ICC World Test Championship series in Manchester.

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim also made a significant jump, advancing seven places to a career-best-equalling 17th position. His match-winning 191 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi was a standout performance that has rightfully earned him this promotion.

Other movers include Sri Lankan batters Dinesh Chandimal, who has climbed four places to 23rd, and Kamindu Mendis, who is up eight places to 36th. Bangladesh’s Liton Das has risen two places to 27th, while England’s Jamie Smith has made a leap of 22 places to reach 42nd.

Bowling Rankings See Shifts

The Test bowling rankings have also seen significant changes. England’s Chris Woakes has moved up four places to 16th after taking three wickets in each innings against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando has surged 10 places to 17th following his six-wicket haul in the same match.

Pakistan’s fast bowler Naseem Shah has advanced four places to 33rd, while England’s new-ball bowler Gus Atkinson and Matthew Potts have climbed to 42nd and 57th, respectively.

T20I Rankings Update

In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has broken into the top 10 following his impressive scores of 65 not out, 19, and 35 in a 3-0 series victory over South Africa in Trinidad. South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks has also made gains, moving up to 13th position.

The T20I bowling rankings have seen West Indies’ left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein rise four places to second after taking four wickets in three matches. Gudakesh Motie, another left-arm spinner from the West Indies, is now just one position behind Hosein, moving up 10 slots. Romario Shepherd has also climbed the rankings, now standing at 31st position.

Mohammad Rizwan’s entry into the top 10 of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings marks a significant achievement in his career and reflects his growing stature in international cricket. As the rankings continue to evolve, fans can expect more thrilling performances from these top-ranked players in the upcoming matches.
