Decline in Motorbike and Three-Wheeler Sales in Pakistan for Fiscal Year 2023-24

The Pakistani motorbike and three-wheeler market experienced a decline in sales during the fiscal year 2023-24, with a drop of 3.10% compared to the previous year, according to data from the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA).

In the period from July 2023 to June 2024, a total of 1,150,112 motorbikes and three-wheelers were sold, down from 1,186,969 units sold in the same period during 2022-23. This decrease highlights the challenging market conditions faced by manufacturers and consumers alike.

Motorbike Sales

Among the key players in the motorbike segment, Honda saw a slight decline in sales, with units dropping by 0.21% from 1,005,408 to 1,003,253. This marginal decrease indicates that Honda’s market position remains relatively stable despite the overall downturn.

Suzuki motorcycles experienced a significant drop of 42.35%, with sales plummeting from 29,274 units to 16,876 units. This sharp decline reflects Suzuki’s struggle to maintain its foothold in the market during the year.

Yamaha also faced a challenging year, with sales decreasing from 13,217 units to 6,562 units, marking a decline of 50.34%. Similarly, Road Prince motorbikes saw a drastic reduction in sales, falling by 42.04% from 27,690 units to 16,049 units.

United Auto motorcycles reported a decrease of 9.48%, with sales dropping from 91,347 units to 82,683 units, indicating a moderate decline compared to other brands.

Three-Wheeler Sales

In contrast to the overall trend, the three-wheeler segment showed some positive growth. United Auto three-wheelers saw a notable increase in sales, rising by 22.65% from 1,708 units to 2,095 units. Similarly, Sazgar three-wheelers experienced significant growth, with sales increasing by 35.88% from 9,381 units to 15,014 units.

However, not all brands in the three-wheeler segment fared well. Qingqi three-wheeler sales decreased by 19.87%, dropping from 6,564 units to 5,977 units. Road Prince three-wheelers faced a substantial decline of 60.04%, with sales falling from 1,677 units to 1,303 units.

These figures paint a mixed picture of the motorbike and three-wheeler market in Pakistan. While the overall sales trend is downward, certain segments and brands have managed to achieve growth. The market dynamics highlight the need for manufacturers to adapt to changing consumer preferences and economic conditions to sustain and grow their market presence.
