The Deputy Convenor of Mutahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan Kanwer Naveed Jamil on Sunday said MQM will protest against provincial government of Pakistan People’s Party for its injustices and oppression against people of the urban areas.
Addressing a conference organized against Sindh Local Government (Amendment) Bill-2021, MQM leader said provincial government was discriminating people of urban areas by slashing powers from local government institutions.
Rejecting SLG law, Kanwer Naveed said provincial Govt had curtailed powers of LG institutions by passing Sindh Local Govt Amendment Bill 2021.
He said powers must be decentralized from provincial government to Municipal Corporations and local councils so that people’s issues could be resolved at the gross root level.
Karachi is giving 75% revenue to the federal and 94% to the provincial government but injustice is being done to this city, Kanwer Naveed said and demanded that Local Government Institutions must be given administrative as well as financial powers to serve the people of urban areas.
The conference was attended by MQM-P’s parliament and Sindh Assembly members and business community leaders and demanded powers for local government institutions.
