Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed authorities to launch an online portal for reporting civic issues in Karachi. This new initiative aims to improve the city’s infrastructure and public services, with a focus on preparation for Eid.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting at CM House. Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and other senior officials attended the meeting. The main topics discussed were drainage issues, illegal encroachments, road maintenance, sanitation, security, and traffic management.
CM Shah expressed concern over frequent road cutting in three districts. He noted that many newly constructed roads had been dug up, causing inconvenience to residents. Officials explained that local town administrations had been independently granting road cutting approvals. In response, CM Shah centralizes all future road cutting permissions. Approvals are given only by the Karachi mayor and commissioner.
“No KMC or town officer should have the authority to approve road cutting without oversight,” CM Shah stated. He directed the Local Government Department to issue an executive order to formalize this regulation.
The chief minister also discussed critical civic issues such as overflowing sewers, garbage accumulation, and debris on major roads. These problems disrupt traffic and negatively affect the city’s image. To address this, he announced the creation of a “Karachi Issues Portal” at CM House. Assistant and deputy commissioners will submit reports about drainage, encroachments, and sanitation through this portal.
CM Shah instructed assistant commissioners to conduct field inspections. He emphasized that they should ensure timely resolution of drainage issues, cleanliness problems, and illegal parking.
CM Shah Enhances Security for Eid Shoppers
With Eid approaching, CM Shah stressed the importance of increasing security and public convenience. He instructed Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah to increase police patrols and implement measures to assist shoppers. He also directed the KMC and traffic police to improve street lighting, traffic flow, and security in key commercial areas.
To enhance the city’s aesthetics, CM Shah tasked the Karachi Mayor with launching a beautification project. This project will focus on renovating four major markets and surrounding areas by the end of the year. He also outlined plans to extend the beautification efforts to more markets and public spaces next year.
The meeting reviews the progress of the Lyari water pipeline project. CM Shah urged the local government department to expedite the project and keep him updated on its progress.
Furthermore, CM Shah outlined post-Eid anti-encroachment measures. He instructed officials to remove soft encroachments from public spaces to improve accessibility.
“We must ensure that public spaces remain open and accessible to all,” he said.
