Pakistan has taken a significant step in boosting its maritime trade with the launch of its first national containerized flag carrier shipping service. The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has introduced this service to facilitate direct cargo transport between Pakistan and Gulf countries, marking a milestone in the country’s trade and logistics sector.
A Game-Changer for Maritime Trade
The newly launched service establishes a direct shipping route connecting Karachi, Jebel Ali (Dubai), and Dammam (Saudi Arabia). This initiative is set to benefit Pakistani exporters and importers by providing a faster, more reliable, and cost-effective trade solution. Previously, Pakistan’s shipping industry was heavily dependent on foreign carriers, but with this new venture, businesses can now enjoy greater control and efficiency in cargo transportation.
Reliable and Cost-Effective Shipping
The service commenced operations with two cargo vessels, each with a capacity of 1,120 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). These ships will operate on a 10-day round-trip schedule, ensuring the timely movement of goods. By introducing a dedicated Pakistani shipping service, NLC aims to enhance trade competitiveness and reduce logistics costs for local businesses.
One of the standout benefits of this initiative is the ability for businesses to make slot payments in Pakistani rupees. This significantly reduces reliance on foreign exchange, making transactions more convenient and lowering financial burdens on traders.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Trade with the Gulf
The launch of this shipping service is expected to increase trade volumes between Pakistan and the Gulf region. By providing a direct and efficient shipping route, the initiative will create more opportunities for local industries, boost exports, and improve the country’s logistics infrastructure.
The inauguration ceremony at Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited was attended by senior officials from NLC, the shipping industry, and key business stakeholders. Their presence underscored the importance of this development in advancing Pakistan’s maritime sector.
Pakistan’s first national shipping service by NLC represents a major leap in the country’s trade and logistics landscape. By reducing dependence on foreign shipping lines, offering cost-effective solutions, and ensuring a seamless trade experience with Gulf nations, this initiative strengthens Pakistan’s economic standing and enhances global trade connectivity.
