Pakistan’s IT Service Exports Surge by 23.33% in FY 2023-24

Pakistan has achieved remarkable growth in its IT services sector, earning US $2.925 billion in the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2023-24. This represents a significant 23.33% increase compared to the US $2.371 billion earned during the same period of the previous fiscal year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Growth in Computer Services

The export of computer services has been a major contributor to this growth, rising by 26.72% from US $1.909 billion last year to US $2.419 billion for the July-May 2023-24 period. This increase highlights the expanding global demand for Pakistan’s IT expertise.

  • Software Consultancy Services: These services saw a notable increase of 13.57%, with exports growing from US $698.129 million to US $792.580 million.
  • Hardware Consultancy Services: Similarly, exports surged by 17.12%, rising from US $5.251 million to US $6.150 million.
  • Repair and Maintenance Services: In contrast, this category experienced a significant decrease of 46%, falling from US $2.822 million to US $1.524 million.
  • Computer Software Services: Both export and import of computer software services saw a 7.58% rise, increasing from US $540.153 million to US $581.070 million.

Increase in Information Services

The export of information services has also seen impressive growth, with an increase of 111% from US $4.500 million to US $9.495 million. This growth is driven by:

  • News Agency Services: Exports surged by 176.33%, jumping from US $2.645 million to US $7.309 million.
  • Other Information-Related Services: These services experienced a 17.84% increase, rising from US $1.855 million to US $2.186 million.

Telecommunication Services Expansion

Telecommunication services saw an 8.29% increase, with exports growing from US $457.750 million to US $495.700 million. Within this sector:

  • Call Centres Services: Exports increased by 12%, from US $212.761 million to US $238.300 million.
  • Other Telecommunication Services: These services rose by 5.07%, moving from US $244.989 million to US $257.400 million.

Pakistan’s IT sector continues to demonstrate robust growth, driven by a rise in exports across various categories, including computer services, information services, and telecommunication services. The significant increase in earnings underscores the country’s growing prominence as a global IT services provider. Despite some declines in specific areas like repair and maintenance services, the overall expansion highlights the sector’s resilience and potential for future growth.

The data reflects a strong performance in Pakistan’s IT services sector, showcasing its ability to meet the demands of an increasingly digital global market.
