Pakistan Railways has announced a special train schedule for Eid-ul-Fitr to ease travel for passengers during the holiday. This year, three special trains will be departing from Karachi to Lahore and Rawalpindi.
The first Eid special train, equipped with 16 coaches, will depart from Karachi to Lahore today. It will carry over 1,000 passengers, ensuring ample space for holiday travelers.
The second Eid special train is scheduled for March 27. This train will travel from Karachi to Rawalpindi, providing another convenient option for those heading north for the holiday.
The third special train is set to depart on March 28 from Karachi to Lahore, catering to the expected increase in travel closer to the Eid celebration.
Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 is expected to be observed on March 31, after the sighting of the Shawwal moon. According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, the crescent is predicted to appear on the evening of March 30, assuming clear weather conditions across Pakistan.
Khalid Ijaz Mufti, Secretary General of the council, stated that the moon will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 3:58 PM Pakistan time. By sunset on Sunday, the moon will be over 26 hours old, making it visible to the naked eye.
Mufti further explained that the moon must be at least 18 hours old at sunset to be sighted. The time between sunset and moonset will also exceed the necessary 40 minutes, ensuring visibility in various cities.
With these preparations in place, Pakistan Railways aims to make travel more convenient for passengers during Eid. While moon sighting preparations indicate a likely celebration on March 31.
