The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the much-anticipated itinerary for the Pakistan Men’s cricket team’s tour to South Africa. The tour is set to feature a thrilling lineup of matches including two tests, three T20Is, and as many ODIs, scheduled to take place between December 10, 2024, and January 7, 2025.
Test Matches:
The two test matches will be integral parts of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 and will be held at Centurion (26-30 December) and Cape Town (3-7 January).
T20I and ODI Series:
Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg will play host to the T20Is from 10-14 December, while the ODIs will be spread across Paarl, Cape Town, and Johannesburg from 17-22 December.
Busy Schedule:
After their South African tour, the national side will return home to face New Zealand and South Africa in a three-nation ODI tournament starting January 8. This will be followed by the prestigious eight-team ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
Preparation and Prior Tours:
The Men in Green will depart for Durban on December 2 after a series against Australia from November 4-18. Prior to this, Pakistan will host Bangladesh and England for two and three Tests respectively. This means a packed schedule of seven Tests, a minimum of 10 ODIs, and six T20Is in the six-month period from August 2024 to January 2025.
History and Head-to-Head:
This will mark Pakistan’s seventh Test tour of South Africa since 1994-95. Despite historical challenges, Pakistan has had notable victories in the past. Notably, their wins in the 1997-98 and 2006-2007 series showcased remarkable performances by players like Azhar Mahmood, Saeed Anwar, Mushtaq Ahmed, and Shoaib Akhtar.
In ODIs, the competition between Pakistan and South Africa has been intense. While Pakistan has won two of the last three series, South Africa has had the upper hand historically.
In T20Is, Pakistan holds a slight edge, leading 6-5 in head-to-head encounters.
