According to recent data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA), car sales during the initial two months of the current financial year 2023-24 have experienced a significant decline of 50.35 percent compared to the same period last year.
The data reveals that a total of 9,611 cars were sold during the reviewed months, contrasting sharply with the 19,358 units sold during the corresponding months of the previous year.
Breaking down the figures, it is evident that sales of Honda Civic and City amounted to 700 units during July-August 2023-24, down considerably from the 3,844 units sold in July-August 2022-23. Toyota Corolla and Yaris also witnessed a decline of 52.83 percent, with sales dropping from 4,635 units to 2,186 units.
Suzuki Swift experienced an 11.48 percent decrease in sales, recording 755 units in contrast to the 853 units sold the previous year. Suzuki Cultus sales dwindled to 482 units in the first two months of the current year, compared to 1,072 units during the same period last year. Similarly, sales of Suzuki WagonR decreased to 604 units from the previous year’s 647 units.
Suzuki Alto’s sales took a sharp hit, declining by 39.09 percent, plummeting from 6,911 units to 4,209 units during the current year. Lastly, the sale of Suzuki Bolan declined to 312 units, a significant drop from the 580 units sold during the same month last year.
