Peshawar Zalmi beat Lahore Qalandars in Super Over in the last league match of HBLPSL 7 at Gaddafi Stadium here on Monday night.

The winning team achieved the target of six runs in one over on the second ball without losing a wicket. Batting first, Lahore Qalandars scored five runs in the super over without any loss.
Earlier, in the thirtieth match of HBL PSL 7, Lahore Qalandars had leveled the match against Peshawar Zalmi due to superb batting of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shaheen Shah Afridi scored 23 runs in the last over of the match to level the match.
Despite losing this match, Lahore Qalandars will face Multan Sultans in the first qualifier of HBL PSL-7. The match between the two teams will be played on Wednesday, February 23 at the same venue.
Peshawar Zalmai’s team will face Islamabad United on Thursday, February 24.
In pursuit of the target, Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhr Zaman, who scored six half-centuries in the tournament, returned to the pavilion without opening his account on the first ball of the innings. Lahores coming batsmen couldn’t stay on the crease for long and were dismissed for 49 off 44 balls.
Lahore Qalandars needed 30 runs off the last 12 balls to win but Wahab Riaz took the wickets of set batsman Muhammad Hafeez and newcomer Haris Rauf on the first ball of the 19th over of the innings and Peshawar Zalmi scored only six runs in the match. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi equalized the score by hitting a four and three sixes to Mohammad Omar in the last over of the match.
Fast bowlers Wahab Riaz and Arshad Iqbal took two wickets each. Shoaib Malik, Emad Butt, Mohammad Omar and Khalid Usman took one wicket each.
Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. After the form opener Mohammad Haris was dismissed for an individual score of 6, Hazratullah Zazai along with Kamran Akmal tried to resist by forming a partnership of 36 runs but he too was dismissed for 20 runs. Kamran Akmal scored 18 runs.
After that, veteran batsman Shoaib Malik formed a 60-run partnership with young cricketer Haider Ali. This was the longest partnership of Peshawar Zalmi’s innings. Shoaib Malik was the most prominent batsman of Peshawar Zalmi by scoring 32 runs. Haider Ali scored 25 runs. Khalid Usman (19) and Hussain Talat (17) remained unbeaten in the closing overs.
Fawad Ahmed took 2 wickets for 26 runs. Muhammad Hafeez, David Visay, Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi took one wicket each.
