Pakistani mountaineer Shehroze Kashif, nicknamed the “Broad Boy,” has made history as the youngest climber from the country to scale all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters. Kashif, 22, achieved this remarkable milestone by reaching the summit of Shishapangma, which stands at 8,027 meters (26,335 feet) above sea level, early Wednesday morning.
Shishapangma, located in Tibet, is the 14th-highest mountain in the world and was the final peak in Kashif’s journey to join the elite club of climbers who have conquered all of the world’s eight-thousanders. Kashif is now the second Pakistani to accomplish this incredible feat, following Sarbaz Khan, who recently became the first from Pakistan to scale all 14 eight-thousanders after summiting Shishapangma.
Kashif’s journey to mountaineering fame began in 2019, when at just 17 years old, he scaled Broad Peak, towering at 8,047 meters, earning him the nickname “Broad Boy” and launching him into the global spotlight. His impressive career has included summits of Mount Everest, K2, Manaslu, and Kanchenjunga, among others.
In 2022, Kashif attempted to summit Shishapangma, but an accident thwarted his efforts. Had he succeeded, he would have become the youngest climber in the world to complete all 14 eight-thousanders. Despite the setback, Kashif remained determined and finally achieved his goal this year.
Reflecting on his achievement, Kashif expressed gratitude for overcoming numerous challenges along the way. “I knew it would be incredibly tough, and there was a real risk of losing my life,” he said. “But I stayed focused on the goal. Now, standing here, I realize this accomplishment isn’t just about climbing mountains; it’s about conquering fears, doubts, and limitations. It feels nothing short of a miracle.”
Kashif’s historic journey has been supported by the BARD Foundation, whose founder, Abdul Razak Dawood, expressed immense pride in the young climber’s achievement. “I’ve always believed in Shehroze’s extraordinary potential, and today, he has exceeded all expectations, making the nation proud,” Dawood said.
With this latest accomplishment, Shehroze Kashif has solidified his place among the world’s elite mountaineers, setting an inspiring example for the youth of Pakistan and the global climbing community.
