Pakistan’s Haniya Minhas has won the 14&U Sobir Cup Asian Tennis Federation tournament in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Friday.
The 10-year old Haniya outplayed 2nd seed Sumaya Tukhtaeva of Tajikistan 6-1,6-0 in straight sets, according to information made available here by Pakistan Tennis Federation. The top seeded Haniya was in great form throughout the tournament, and won all her matches comfortably without losing a set.
She is the first Pakistani girl to win an ATF 14&U event in country’s history.
Salim Saifullah Khan, President of PTF and the Executive Committee of PTF extended their felicitations to Haniya and her parents. In a joint message they said it was a great honour for the nation and the PTF that such a breakthrough had been made by a Pakistani girl.
Haniya’s triumph will prove to be an inspiration for other players, especially young girls, and serve as a motivating factor for upcoming players, they said.
