The Food for thought, and I the fool!

2017, was the year I shifted back to a city that has never failed to surprise me, mera Karachi!

2018, I witnessed the first rain and enjoyed it because it was something I missed while living in London my other city!

2019, the rains came back but this time I was in London for a project but with it came the surprise of Karachi – rains, with no drains and no brains to think if this is how it shall always be.

2020, with lockdown we all witnessed the luck down as well. August rains, my Lord was more than simply a surprise this time it was no fun and living with no electricity for 72 hours and no water inside but water everywhere around I was traumatized for witnessing so much destruction all across Sindh!

2021, we escaped the post rains disaster not because we were prepared but simply because the disaster was not planned. We fool survived!

So what NEXT? 2022 the environmental climate change depression is what hit me and I did not know whom to help as I needed more help than anyone. The sound of the rain this time did not sound like music to my ears and the feeling to dance in the rain was just not there! In fact to see the rainwater building a pool around my building and the gutters overflowing was a dreadful sight in all. I was just being emotional and wanted to shift back to London, another city that never fails to impress me.

The destruction from the rains left a deep mark on the people of Karachi and everyone was struggling to survive. Food prices soaring and the shortfall of basic food supplies was increasing day by day. Once again I the fool here, thought it would be okay soon. But overnight the rains turned into floods and the food disappeared and came out the fools.

So who are the fools here? That is what we need to find out.

Donations, aid, and funds were the new #hashtags#, the whole world came to help and support the flood victims and a whole menu card was shared on global social media. Once again I the fool reacted to understand how would the victims cook in the water, and how would they survive with no base and no roof. Deep in my thoughts during my weekly trips to the affected areas, I realized that the victims simply wanted the basics to live and all the international aid and local donations were to feed the fools!

The food they were asking for was the thought to consider they did not need cooking oil and 2 kilos of sugar or rice or wheat. The food for thought was the understanding of their basic rights and needs to live even after losing everything they had. Most of the fools did not realize that the floods could have been diverted or prevented to cause less destruction. But the agenda here was entirely different!

The floods took away all the food which they had, and then brought the same food back and left the fools to believe this!
