PSL opening in Pakistan!! Big deal? Yasssss. We like million other Pakistanis who were super excited when we heard that PSL matches were going to take place in Pakistan. Even more, the excitement was of the opening night. We expected it to be full of luster and glam but alas! The makers just did not deliver. Here are some of the reasons why we think the opening went so wrong.
The Event Manager
For those who don’t know the PSL opening night was managed by an Indian event manager Shubhra Bhardwaj. I mean really PCB? You couldn’t get a good show director here in Pakistan. We could name a few if you want. This shows the hypocrisy of our system of how the government has banned the Indian shows on one side but had to appoint an Indian entrepreneur to organize one of the biggest sports show of Pakistan. We would have gotten over this too IF THE EVENT WAS GOOD! Which knock knock… It wasn’t. From unrehearsed performances to bad lighting to a really bad sound system. Blunders after blunders were made. So for next time, we hope PCB hires a talented PAKISTANI manager when the stakes are this high.
The Show’s Host
We think one of the darkest parts of PSL was hosting. Hosting is meant to be fun and light and such that it involves everyone in the stadium. The host is supposed to talk about the event, glorifying it and still relating to the audiences but unfortunately, that was not the case. While we are sure Ahmad Godil is a very talented person, he just wasn’t the right choice for the hosting of such a grand event. Ahmad was a little too stoic in his reactions and hosting. It was more of a political speech or a one-sided monologue.
The Performances
It was being said that around 300 performers were set to perform on this star-studded night but somehow things didn’t go as planned. Some of the planned performances were canceled and some artists did not even perform well. Add to it the worst sound system they could find on planet Earth. Ali Azmat disclosed on a late-night show later that they had been rehearsing for a couple of days but the schedule and timings were changed last minute which created a lot of chaos.
So there you have it. Our take on what went wrong with the PSL opening. Did you watch it live? What are your thoughts on it?
