The Supreme Courts Hints at YouTube Ban In Pakistan

On the bench hearing the case, the Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin and Justice Mushir Alam were there. However, during the hearing, the court objected upon the indecent content on social media, which particularly objectified the judiciary, the armed forces, and the government.

Justice Amin remarked that “We have no objection to freedom of expression”. He further says that “Our salaries are paid from the money of the people, they have the right to raise questions on our decisions and our performance”. In the same conversation, Justice Amin asked “how many people have been prosecuted for such crimes?”. Meanwhile, Justice Alam noted the thing that all social media are regulated through local laws in many countries.

Without a doubt, Pakistan’s digital space has been monitored and was restricted many times. However, the authorities monitored closely through laws such as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 as well by the federal agencies PTA and FIA.
