Investigations originating from the May 22 Airbus A320 plane crash shed considerable light over various issues prevalent in other PIA departments. In the aviation industry, Pakistan International Airlines, abbreviated as PIA, is the national flag carrier of Pakistan and for this reason, Pakistan suffers constant repercussions to its national image through the blunders made by PIA on a consistent basis.
In the current time period, PIA suffers from adequate planning and organization in their Human Resources Department as it turns out that 1 in 3 pilots possess dubious licenses or have cheated in their aviation exams. PIA was already under a government investigation after its 2018 plane crash. However, after the May 22 crash that took the lives of 97 passengers, PIA faced further examination and it has been established that the pilots were deemed responsible for the unfortunate crash.
Anybody with a remote understanding of the aviation industry knows that the two most important departments of an airline are the maintenance crew and the line personnel. The maintenance crew is responsible for keeping the machinery in safe, working order and the line personnel ensures the flight aspects of the aircraft. When a traveller purchases a plane ticket, it is not just his money he pays with but also a part of his life. With that being said, if it’s not too much to ask, the least the general public can receive in return is confidence in their flight host.
With the presence of extraneous variables, assurity of such sorts for the passengers comes with limited scope. Nonetheless, the artificial component of a flight becomes the facet of the transaction that can be controlled and influenced by human effort and labour. The most manageable component of such an ordeal thus becomes the adequate functioning of the human resources incharge of assessing and hiring the right talent. When you can’t even safeguard that, when you can’t even manage the most manageable sectors of your business, when you can’t even cross-check the right documents and hire the right crew, then your planes aren’t the only things falling out of the sky. It is your entire institution and its capabilities that has come crashing down.
People risk their lives every time they board an airplane and the least the HR department can do is proof check the validity and reliability of their pilots’ licenses. PIA has currently grounded 150 “pilots” who may not hold valid licenses and further investigations are taking place, a silver lining to the catastrophe that took place on May 22, an incident which was deemed to be out of human error and not unforeseen circumstances.
