Corona Virus is the latest threat to humankind. It is threatening our very existence. As of 12th March, WHO has declared it a pandemic and many countries have been struggling to keep it under control. The US has declared a national emergency and many movies and dramas have been shelved. Many international actors and directors have announced on their social media handles that human life is the most important thing and that is why the productions are being postponed indefinitely.
In these circumstances what is in store for the Pakistani entertainment industry, already hanging by the thread?
Movies’ Screening will stop
One such incident has already happened as the makers of the hit show Ehd e Wafa, who were set to telecast its last episode in cinemas have announced that it wouldn’t be possible amidst the coronavirus fears. This is just the beginning. Movies will not be screened and many theatres will remain closed till April for now.
Should productions of shows be postponed as well?
Pakistan has been one of the luckier countries in a way that the virus has remained manageable until now and we see our celebrities meeting and hanging around as normal but many international show makers have postponed their productions because on a set one cant keep everything as sanitized as the situation demands. Ellen Pompeo, Ellen Degeneres among many others have announced that they will have to take a break and no more episodes will be produced until the situation gets better.
Should Pakistani Media do the same? After all human life is the most important thing that needs to be protected. This will result in a lot of monetary loss but right now workers, cast and crew should be the focus of the makers.
Corona Virus is a deadly new strain of the virus that has not been studied much yet. There is no cure or vaccine. Under such conditions, people should come together and maintain a social distance that can help the government and healthcare workers. We hope that this nightmare is over soon and the entertainment industry bounces back with vigor!
