Pakistan’s glitziest night of the year, the 18th LUX Style Awards (LSA), honoured the best from Fashion, Film, Music and Television at a packed to the brim evening, where the stars danced, music was celebrated, cinema lauded and a parade of beautiful young stars took home the coveted ‘luxie’ statuette. It was a night of celebration where on the one hand legends were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards and on the other was a showcase of Pakistan’s digital prowess as innovative activities peppered the red carpet and Google kicked off the show with a countdown.

After 17 glorious years of celebrating Film, Fashion, Television and Music Geo presented the LUX Style Awards for the year 2019. As expected it was a glamorous evening where star-power, talent and the best in the Pakistani entertainment and fashion industry came together all under one Karachi Expo roof for a glitzy night in celebration.

The stars strode down the opulent and plush red carpet in gorgeous ensembles, conversing with the debonair red carpet host duo, Munib Nawaz and Anoushey Ashraf. Along with stars there was a plethora of activities that kept guests engaged on the dual red carpets such as Glambot a digital installation to shoot stunning 1000fps slow-motion portraits of celebrities. Door to LSA – a virtual reality experience that live streamed all the red carpet activities, situated in hotspots in cities such as Karachi and Multan was another favourite stop for the guests. The live-stream allowed for communication between LSA fans and celebrities all evening long.

The carpet also featured a grand and exquisite Swarovski wall covered in the world renowned crystals that glittered. This served as the ultimate backdrop for guests and stars to get photographed against. The innovative 3D mapping booth was another focal point for anyone walking the red carpet and had guests in awe. As the night progressed, Karachi Expo started to fill up with more celebrities and trail-blazers from all four categories. The evening began with a soulful rendition of the National Anthem by the band Grehan. The beautiful instrumental was accompanied with striking imagery of Pakistan’s natural terrain as guests paid tribute to their nation. The night kicked off with the first host , Fahad Mustafa. His witty one-liners and electric energy was unmatchable. He proceeded to set a relaxed tone for the evening before introducing the first act of the night, Momina Mustehsan featuring Eva B. The entire segment was written, directed and produced by the talented Momina Mustehsan. With statement t-shirts and powerful choreography, the act emphasized Women’s Resilience. Shortly after, the first award of the night set the evening in motion.

The first segment, Television was hosted by the stars of the upcoming film Parey Hut Love, Maya Ali and Sheheryar Munawar. In the second segment, the beautiful Mehwish Hayat and the bubbly Zara Noor Abbas presented the awards for Fashion. The Fashion Awards segment continued with Sonya Hussayn, Mikaal Zulfikar, Azfar Rehman, Asad Siddiqui, finishing off with a very special Lifetime Achievement Award in Fashion. Show director Frieha Altaf who has worked with Nabila for years to present the stylish face of the industry, gave a laudatory intro the powerhouse that is Nabila Maqsood, the talented front-runner in the world of fashion and styling in Pakistan and overseas. The award was introduced by her sons, Zair and Zahir Maqsood who paid tribute to their supermom.

As the night progressed, the talented musician Ali Safina and the gifted comedian, Shafat Syed hosted the Music segment, where the LUX Style Award for Song of the Year was awarded to Khumariyan. Finally, the last segment of the evening was presented by Lal Kabootar duo, Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar for the much awaited Film category.

A thrilling performance was then put on by the LUX Girls, Meera, Maya Ali, Saba Qamar in tribute to the legendary Shabnam. Alongside Meera was Asad Siddiqui, his first time on the LSA stage. The segment, set with vibrant colours and nostalgic hits, honored the famous Pakistani actress for her years of talent in the industry. Unilever Chairman, Shazia Syed handed the Lifetime Achievement Award in Entertainment to the much loved Shabnam, who had flown in from her home in Dhaka, with Nadeem Sahab and Atif Aslam accompanying her on stage.

In the last and most awaited segment of Film, Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat, performed two numbers together and one separately on stage. The choreography of the song ‘Billo Hai’ had the crowd dancing along as well. The night came to a close with the audience on the edge of their seats for the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Film awards. The film industry’s leading directors came out to support Pakistani cinema before announcing film category nominees. The directors included, Asim Raza, Saqib Malik, Sarmad Khoosat, Sangeeta and Ehteshamuddin. Each spoke briefly about the nominated Directors and praised each one for their outstanding work last year. Ahsan Rahim won for his debut film Teefa in Trouble.

Backstage, all winners of a LUX Style Award were escorted to a winner’s area where they were given the opportunity to shoot their exclusive winner portrait with the celebrity photographer Amean J.
Other highlights from the evening included a surprise proposal for the actress Iqra Aziz by Yasir Hussain. Yasir made his intention clear and then walked down to an overwhelmed Iqra Aziz and presented her with the Inherit Fine Jeweller’s engagement ring. The young star, who had won not one but two awards, both the Critics and the Viewer’s Choice awards for Best Actress in Suno Chanda, accepted the very public proposal and thus did the LUX Style Award get its first on stage real life marriage proposal.

The last award of the night was presented by acclaimed writer Imran Aslam and LUX ambassador, Saba Qamar for Best Film. Asim Abbasi’s film ‘Cake’ took home the prize for Best Film. The night ended with yet another glamorous performance celebrating the best of Pakistani entertainment.
The LUX Style Awards is the most anticipated and coveted award show in Pakistan that continues to honour achievements in Film, Fashion, Music and Television all under one umbrella.
