London Nahi Jaunga Review: A Powerpack Entertainer

The film industry of Pakistan is on tenterhooks, craving a Blockbuster. 2022 has been an erratic year with fewer highs and substantial lows puncturing the spirit of the film fraternity. The best is always reserved for the festive season and it has been a tradition to have at least a couple of biggies to end the dry spell at the ticket counters.

After delivering the monstrous hit Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Humayun Saeed teams up with the hit machine, director Nadeem Baig, yet again. Also, his pairing with co-star Mehwish Hayat yet again adds incredible weight to this keenly anticipated project. In addition, several enviable names lend muscle to the enterprise.

Nadeem Baig focuses on the love story yet again, while the light moments, high-octane drama and aimed-at-masses dialogue, the staple ingredients or fodder that contribute to a masaledar flick, adorn the goings-on wonderfully.

Last word? London Nahi Jaunga delivers what it promises:

Entertainment in enormous doses. Nadeem Baig’s latest creation speaks the language that the masses comprehend. And, don’t we know by now, how proficient Baig is when it comes to delivering a true entertainer in his unmistakable style.

The Storyline

Jameel Qamar aka Humayun Saeed, a bachelor, is dogging his engagement with Arzu (Kubra Khan) God knows for what reasons? Love soon blossoms in his life when Zara Tiwana (Mehwish Hayat) makes an entry. Within no time Jameel falls in love with Zara and the repercussions of their relationship forms the rest of the film.

Firstly, let’s address the speculations that London Nahi Jaunga is a sequel or modified version of Punjab Nahi Jaungi [2017], but that’s not true at all. Most love stories navigate identical paths and London Nahi Jaunga is no different. Nadeem Baig along with writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar narrates the story smartly, peppering and garnishing the proceedings with sub-plots that keep you completely captivated, while dialogues act as the icing on the cake. The twists and turns involving Humayun and Mehwish are clearly the USP of the enterprise.

The soundtrack [Shani Arshad] gels wonderfully with the genre of the film. ‘Ve Pardesiya’ is a rage already and definitely the pick of the lot. ‘Mahiya Ve Mahiya’ is another groovy track that has caught on in a big way. ‘Marjaaniye’ is another soulful composition, while ‘Yar Chadh Gaya’ gives goose bumps. The best part is, that the songs are appropriately interspersed in the scheme of things. The background score is creditable and in sync with the on-screen situations.

The principal cast provides the much-needed sheen to Nadeem Baig’s vision. For the incalculable fans of Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat, it’s a treat to watch their chemistry after Dillagi and Punjab Nahi Janugi. It goes without saying that the duo dominates the proceedings with their effervescent acts. Humayun is at his charismatic best as Jameel Qamar and carries off the characters nuance with aplomb. Mehwish looks gorgeous and steals your heart with a performance that stays in your memory. Besides, the on-screen chemistry is one of the pillars on which London Nahi Jaunga rests.

Kubra Khan is the surprise package. Her character is one of the high points of the film and the terrific portrayal takes it notches higher. Despite being pitted with some of the best names in the business, Khan is simply magnetic. The actress, barely a few films old, is credible in light moments and compelling in poignant sequences. Gauhar Rasheed is camera-friendly and confident to the T. He contributes amply to the comic situations.

London Nahi Jaunga boasts of a commanding supporting cast. Sohail Ahmed [exceptional], Saba Hameed [super], Saba Faisal [first-rate], and Mehar Bano [competent]. Vasay Chaudhry does exceedingly well. Salman Shahid and Asif Raza Mir, the two veterans, are just right. Iffat Omar is adequate.

Our Verdict

On the whole, London Nahi Jaunga is akin to a mouthwatering meal that satiates the craving of those who relish masaledar flicks. London Nahi Jaunga is a crowd-pleaser and delivers what you expect from a Nadeem Baig film. Highly recommended. Go for it!
